MAGMA GEOPARK GREEN CARD

On the recommendation of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, the executive board of UNESCO has designated Magma Geopark as UNESCO Global Geopark from 1st of January 2019 to the 31st of  December 2022.

Magma UNESCO Global Geopark is an area identified within the municipalities of Bjerkreim, Lund, Eigersund, Sokndal and Flekkenfjord, app. 80 km south of Stavanger.
The geology of Magma has international scientific importance thank to the moon landscape composed by very hard modeled rocks called anorthosite which are the result of unique Earth moving processes happen Billion years ago. The unique connection between the geological and the cultural heritage combined with sustainable development practices makes Magma be one of the 147 UNESCO Global Geoparks in the World.
