Norge Mining and Magma Geopark signed a cooperation contract

Magma Geopark is a geographical area with a geology that has great international significance, recognized by UNESCO, and where sustainable development plays an important role. Magma Geopark is part of a network of more than 160 UNESCO’s Global Geoparks in 44 different countries on 5 continents, many of which have experience with the problems that mining can have for nature, the environment and the local population.  

Norge Mining’s vision is to become a global leader in the purchase and development of valuable minerals using modern and sensitive mining methods. The company is focusing on three resources with high demand worldwide: vanadium, phosphates and titanium. By using innovation and technology, Norge Mining aims to minimize the impact on the environment and the local population.  

Magma Geopark aims to work with Norge Mining in order to share best practices and find the best solutions together for sustainable mining. Among other things, information will be exchanged through the Horizon 2020 project Arctic HUB and the 8 other Arctic Mining HUBs in Norway, Russia, Italy, Finland and Sweden, as well as the general knowledge Magma Geopark has about the subject. There will be discussed topics such as: limitation of land use, economic benefits, ownership, types of operations, waste management and how the operation complies with the UN’s sustainability goals and balances the negative effects on the environment, economy, other industries and the local community. Activities between the parties will shed a light on the strategic evaluation behind and build a sustainable mining operation and how we can best classify, handle and later treat waste in the most efficient and environmentally responsible way.
