Grand Hotel, Egersund

Grand Hotel

In 1878, Herman Danielson opened Hotel Jæderen at Johan Feyers gate 3, in a building he had bought from Carl Post. The opening of the Jærbanen railway on 27 February 1878 was one of the first major events here, "[...] where a splendid breakfast was arranged in a tastefully decorated room" (Egersundsposten 1.3.1878).

After a fire on 10 May 1896, Danielson erected a new building and at the same time changed the name of the hotel to Grand Hotell. This building remained standing until Easter 1926, when the hotel was once again hit by fire and a brick building was erected as a replacement.

Last year, the hotel was expanded and modernised, including the installation of hot and cold running water in most rooms.

From 1975 the name was Eiger Hotel, but in 1995 the hotel was renamed Grand Hotel. Johan Feyers gate 12 was then restored and incorporated into the hotel, which earned the hotel both Eigersund's Architectural Protection Award and the National Trust of Rogaland's Diploma House Award.
