Orvar-Odd delivers the news of Hjalmar's death to Ingeborg the king's daughter. Painting: August Malmström, 1859.

Orvar Odd

We know Orvar Odd from an Icelandic saga. He was born and grew up at Berglyd in the very south of Rogaland.

Text by Arnt Olav Klippenberg

Odd was a restless soul. He travelled across large parts of the known world. Only when he was old did he return home. According to the saga, Odd was buried in a place where he could hear the sea, the rooster at Berglyd and the church bells. That place is the top of Oddsfjellet.
As a curiosity, I can mention that four Elite League football teams can be linked to the Viking Odd.
