Hedningholmen is located in the heart of Egersund. During the summer, the church is open to tourists.
I don't know, but I believe that one of the first churches in Norway was built on Hedningholmen. The current church celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2023, but there was certainly a church here long before that. It's common to erect new churches on the heads of old gods. There are many indications that this is also the history of Hedningeholmen. The great Viking kings probably all moored their ships at Hedningeholmen. They didn't need to moor at the nest because Egersund has no tides.
We recognise the Viking Orvar Odd from an Icelandic saga. He was born and grew up at Berglyd in the very south of Rogaland. Join us on a journey through Odd's kingdom. Follow in his footsteps in Egersund and Sokndal.
