GEOfood project was financed by Norden Fund- KreaNord program in March 2014 until June 2016. The project’s aim was to boost local food as an unique Geopark experience, valorize the local SME’s in the food and tourism sector in the Nordic countries and promote the creative industries; like local chiefs and local video makers. The project also worked towards expanding the Geopark’s tourism offer with specialized packages including local food and increase the visibility of the Geoparks through a tailored booking system.
One of the most important results was the establishment of official criteria for developing local food and support local business into UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGG), now GEOfood is adopted by 7 UGG and will be implemented further.
Magma UNESCO Global Geopark was the leader of the project. Partners: Odsherred Global Geopark (Denmark), Rokua Global Geopark (Finland), Reykjanes Geopark Project (Iceland). Associated partners: Stonehammer Global Geopark (Canada), Fernando de Noronha Aspiring Geopark (Brazil), Shetland Global Geopark (Scotland) and Subbeticas Global Geopark (Spain).
