Geology and nature

Det er en imponerende varde øverst på Gullbergtua, på 463 m over havnivå, hvorfra du kan nyte en fantastisk utsikt. Bergene her ble dannet svært nær toppen av den 7 km tykke, og lagdelte, Bjerkreim-Sokndal intrusjonen. Bergarten her er en type granitt (kalt charnockitt) som inneholder ni mineraler, inkludert betydelige mengder kvarts.

The view to the north and northwest gives a good overview of bare, rounded, rocky outcrops that formed the quartz-bearing rocks on top of the layered intrusion; they extend about 4 km in this direction. Near Røyseland farm, the ice has left boulders. Among other things, these have been used to build a large ski jump!

How to get there?

Fra E39 følger du fv. 501. Ta av til høyre etter 1,5 km. Etter ca. 2 km svinger du til venstre. Fortsett i omtrent 2 km før du parkerer på høyre side.

Accessibility: Moderately hard hike. Marked paths.
