Lund municipality has a rich and fascinating cultural and industrial history, including historic buildings, furniture factories, and abandoned mines set in stunning surroundings. Lund Rural Museum and Cultural Bank preserve and disseminate this cultural heritage for local residents, tourists, and anyone interested in history.
The museum is located in the old rectory barn approximately 300 meters from the center of Moi. Here you will find numerous collections covering most of the history of Lund municipality. Close to 10,000 objects are stored here. The museum is still best known for the special craft and industrial collections with an emphasis on furniture, toys and, not least, rock turning. Lund Bygdemuseum and Kulturbank is the regional museum for wooden crafts in Dalane, and has particularly rich collections in the field of rock turning and bookmaking. The museum has a unique collection of rose-painted coffins from Lund. You can see them in the permanent exhibitions.
The museum was opened in 1976 by Salve O. Salvesen. He introduced the idea of a cultural bank where residents of Lund could store their "roots" for the enjoyment of both young and old alike.
On the other side of the county road is the square where the last householder in Lund, Andreas Knudsen, lived. He had a homestead contract with the priest, lived as a small farmer, and like so many other people of the same age in Lund, he was a spinner. In the northern part of the house from approx. In 1860 he had a small turning chamber. He turned the pinwheel on a ledge in the stream. Throughout the summer, exhibitions and activities are organized here.
At the museum you will also find the historic orchard, which is run in collaboration with the Norwegian Genetic Resources Committee. The orchard is a clone archive where around 60 different apple and pear varieties have been collected. Some of them, such as Skårseple and Drivdalseple, are local varieties that you can only find in Lund. In "Haien" an old prayer house, Fjellhaug, has also been preserved, where many cultural activities take place. It was moved from Heskestad in 2013. In September, special apple Sundays are organized where you can taste most of the varieties. The vicarage from 1776 and the church from 1812 are part of the experiences that the area is so rich in.
