Important information for hikers

Remember that the cultural landscape we walk in has been created by the landowners over generations. We hikers are guests and must respect the landowner's property.

Trackless transport
Remember to take all rubbish home with you! If someone has forgotten to clean up after themselves, it's good manners to clean up after them too. We appreciate trackless traffic. Don't step on fences and remember to close the gate behind you. Do not move stones from stone fences or other cultural heritage sites, and do not build new cairns.

Band coercion
This is regulated by the Norwegian authorities between 1 April and 20 August. In addition, each municipality has its own regulations on extended leash requirements.

Not food livestock
Respect other people's property. Do not feed livestock! Do not scare grazing animals.

Map and compass
Always carry a map and compass and learn how to use it. Study the map before the trip starts and mark points along the way. If the weather turns bad, it's important to have good reference points to find your way back. Use a compass and make a note of the direction you're going and the direction you came from. With a map and compass, you'll ensure a safer trip for you and your family without any big surprises.

Respect for weather and wind
Dress for the conditions and remember that the weather can be unpredictable. Always bring extra clothes.

Parking
Do not park in such a way that you close off the landowner or other users.

Provisions on the use of open fire
It is not permitted to light fires in forest land between 15 April and 15 September. In some areas there may be a year-round ban.

Husk at du er gjest i naturen og i det kulturlandskapet som gårdbrukerne har skapt opp gjennom tiden.
