What Three Words
Geology and nature
This locality is entirely within the Bjerkreim – Sokndal layered intrusion and on the northern side of a large fold structure. The steep valley wall in a field on the south side of Ørsdalsvatnet exposes many angular blocks of rock enclosed in a coarse grained matrix. On your way along this route you can see a fine example of an outcrop that has been eroded to produce a rounded hollow. This type of smooth erosion surface can only be produced by running water and was formed at the end of the last Ice Age when enormous volumes of water flowed away from the melting ice.
A great view over the landscape from the top of the hill at Hytland.
