Magma Geopark educational offer

Geopark activities for primary school

In collaboration with Jøssingfjord Museum, Magma Geopark has an educational programme for schools with a visit to the new Jøssingfjord Science Museum as a key element.

The level is slightly different for each stage, of course, but the biggest difference between the programmes is in the lab. Both levels focus on the geological cycle, but the 5th level focuses mostly on external forces (how the landscape is shaped), while the 8th level focuses mostly on internal forces (plate tectonics). This will run for 2 weeks in the spring and 2 weeks in the autumn. Schools in the Magma municipalities will automatically receive an invitation, while schools outside can contact us and register their interest.

Guided tour with a teacher from Magma

Examples of possible locations for guided tours with students:

  • Blåfjell (Sokndal municipality)
  • Brufjell (Flekkefjord municipality)
  • Eigerøy lighthouse (Eigersund municipality)
  • Gursli mines (Lund municipality)
  • Solbjørgnipa (Bjerkreim municipality)

Other locations on request. Our guided tours for schools are suitable for students aged 10 and over. We can adjust the content of the trips so that they are adapted to the objectives of the Knowledge Promotion if a teacher wants a trip for younger pupils.

The guided tours for schools are aimed at the knowledge targets in science and social studies in the Knowledge Promotion. The focus is on geology and cultural heritage, and these trips give students the opportunity to experience and wonder while they learn, and at the same time they get all their senses stimulated out in nature. Magma Geopark also offers pre- and post-work on request.
