The Egersund Christmas Village is organised annually over two weekends, Thursday through Sunday, at the end of November and beginning of December. The Christmas Village is organised in Egersund following the pattern of the German Christmas markets. The first Christmas Village was organised in 2004. Since then, it has been organised annually and the event has grown considerably.
The idea came in 2003 after a small notice in the newspaper about a town in England that had great success with its Christmas market.
When something as far away as the UK and Germany can come together in such a tradition, why not the treehouse town of Egersund? This was the thought of one of the initiators, who then contacted Lufthansa. They had just opened a new route from Stavanger to Frankfurt. "Would it be possible to sponsor a part of the ticket if we send a study group before Christmas? Of course, they fell for the idea and donated all the tickets.
