Culture, nature and history at unique Hågåsen.
The trip up to Hågåsen is highly recommended. The trip up is easily accessible with a gravel road for much of the way.
Hågåsen in Kirkehamn on the island of Hidra has many interesting stories that have not previously reached all those who visit this gem every year.
This place has long been an important vantage point and has a history dating back to the Napoleonic Wars in the 19th century.
The German occupying forces had a lot of activity here during the Second World War and built a fortress, Hitterøy Kystfort. There are still many ruins and tunnels left after this. In addition, Kirkehamn, which can be seen from the top, is full of harbour, fishing and sailing ship history.
Much of the history of Hågåsen can be read on nine signs scattered around the mountain.
There's plenty to explore here for young and old alike. Feel free to bring a head torch on your journey.
