Sokndal church

In the middle of Hauge i Dalane lies Sokndal Church, a beautiful and listed wooden church from 1803. The characteristic choir church is built in the Louis XVI style and has stood on the same church site for several hundred years. During restoration work, traces of even older churches have been found, and parts of the timber from the previous church were reused when the current church was built.

The church is known for its harmonious interior with beautiful rose paintings and a number of historical furnishings. The altarpiece from 1608, the richly carved pulpit from 1666 and the baptismal font from 1724 are among the church's most valuable cultural monuments. There is also a 17th-century nave hanging from the ceiling, as many old Norwegian churches have.

In 1928, the church regained its original color after extensive restoration. Today's organ, built by Dutch organ builder Gebr. Reil, was inaugurated in 1995 and is specially adapted to the church's historic interior.

Sokndal Church is a great stop for those interested in history, architecture and cultural heritage. There is parking at the church, and it has a ramp and a telecoil for visitors who need assistance.
