What is it about Rogaland and power production? The county is already built up with hydropower, and when wind power came on the scene, we were quick on the ball and have quickly become one of the country's most densely populated wind power areas. And now we're going to be the first with nuclear power too. The first application to build in Lund municipality has already been sent to the Ministry of Energy.
Has opposition to wind power led us to uncritically embrace nuclear power? What are the advantages and disadvantages of wind and solar power? Does it fit into the Norwegian energy system? Are the safe and cheap solutions in place? How many jobs will it create? And does Norway, the world's most electricity-producing country per capita, with a solid surplus, really need even more? And will nuclear power be able to provide cheaper electricity - or will it become part of the great dragnet of overseas cables?
Even though the tide has turned and most people are more positive about nuclear power, are the drawbacks being swept under the carpet? How much mining is needed to obtain uranium? What about security in the event of war or natural disasters? And what about the never-ending storage problem? And not least - the costs?
