Superstitions – legends, traditions and supernatural beings

What did people believe in the past – and why do some of these beliefs survive to this day?

In this lecture you will hear stories from legends and traditions, and about supernatural beings and their origins. We move from the early 16th century to our own time, with particular emphasis on local and regional stories.

Stories have helped shape our understanding of places, traditions and culture. You will hear about the witch Barbro Osmundsdatter from Farsund, the Sirdalsormen and Lundevatnet, among other things. But why did some priests go around with a black book? And why do we spit for good luck?

Join us for an entertaining and educational evening with stories about the mysterious, the unexplainable – and what we may still not quite dare to challenge.
