Maurholen Stasjon

Along the old Jærbanen hiking trail, you will find Maurholen Station. Today, the venue is rented out for accommodation or private events. Perfect for summer and garden parties with family activities and barbecues. Contact Eigersund Municipality for an agreement. Year-round binding.

The caretaker's accommodation is furnished like an old-style residential building and can be used for both day and overnight visits. The outhouse is suitable for social gatherings, meetings and teaching. The tenant has exclusive right of use to the buildings, but not the outdoor area. Maurholen Station is located in Hellvik.

Reservation

No reservations are required for normal tour use of the outdoor area. Larger groups and events must be registered. Area description

Maurholen Stasjon was formerly a station on the old railway. Today, a hiking trail has been laid on the railway line that runs just past the guard's residence. This hiking route stretches between Egersund and Hellvik. In the vicinity of the station you will find, among other things, traces of rock blasting with black powder in the old English way, stone walls, an impressive rock carving and tunnel, all of which are cultural and historical sights. Attached to the buildings is a large lawn, and 100 meters from the station is a small pond, here is a floating jetty and rowing boats that the tenant can access.

Activity opportunities

Natural and cultural history studies. Walking and cycling on the hiking trail. Paddling or rowing in the Maurholstjernet. Tenting, barbecuing, games, ball games and the like on the lawn. The place is particularly suitable as a departure area for schools and kindergartens, and work is being done on further arrangements for this target group. Lifejackets, oars, equipment for teaching life in fresh water, fishing equipment, as well as a grill and fire pit can be found in the outhouse. Universal facilitation

The area is easily accessible via the hiking trail. From the nearest car park, it is around 300 meters on a completely flat road to the station. If necessary, it is also possible to borrow a key to the barrier so that you can drive all the way in. Apart from the toilet, however, the buildings are not universally designed. Wheelchair users will be dependent on help from others to be able to get into the caretaker's residence and the outbuilding.

Dogs are not allowed inside the buildings.

Tips

A visit to Maurholen station can be advantageously combined with a cycle ride on the hiking trail from Egersund or Hellvik, a great ride with a view of the sea and Nordre Eigerøy. On the Hellvik side, on the south side of the hiking trail, you will find beautiful hiking areas owned by the state. This area is equipped with paths, and in Skadbergvågen and Gyarhavn there is also a wharf, toilet and gap hut.
