Art in the city - Red carpet

Flekkefjord town centre is a treasure trove for art lovers. The centre is full of works of art in all forms - sculptures, street art and, not least, the "Red Carpet" artwork. This work was created by artist Christian Sunde and given as a gift to the town and the people of Flekkefjord on the occasion of the town's 175th anniversary in 2017, by Flekkefjord Sparebank. Should be seen in the evening!

Red carpet

Flekkefjord's history served on a platter - The artwork "Red Carpet" was created by artist Christian Sunde and given as a gift to the people of Flekkefjord on the occasion of the town's 175th anniversary in 2017, by Flekkefjord Sparebank.

A stylish and beautiful meeting point - Located on Tollbodplassen by Tollbodbrygga, between the Spira cultural centre and the waterfront, the "Red Carpet" elevates the cityscape. Here you can follow the city's history, and everything is wrapped up in an exquisite aesthetic and a pure symbolic language.

Mayor of Flekkefjord in 2017, Jan Sigbjørnsen, described the work as follows: "Christian Sunde has succeeded in creating an identity-creating work of art that encourages people to meet, talk to each other and get to know events in Flekkefjord's history in a new way. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you, first and foremost to the artist himself for the artwork and to Flekkefjord Sparebank for the gift, as well as to the politicians whose decisions have helped to ensure that the area in front of the cultural centre has now been given a formidable facelift. The area now looks like a great meeting place."

Generous supporter - Flekkefjord Sparebank has once again put on its spandex trousers. The gift is magnificent and joins the ranks of previous gifts. As you know, the jetty at Torsøyene was the bank's gift on the occasion of the town's 150th anniversary, and has been incredibly well received by both the town's residents and visitors.

The story of a trading town - Mayor Sigbjørnsen continues: "So we're celebrating 175 years this year, but what exactly are we celebrating? In the spring of 1842, His Majesty Carl Johan adopted a royal proposal to make Flekkefjord a market town. The proposal was adopted by the Odelstinget and Lagtinget before the King could sanction the law on 8 August 1842. "The place of Flekkefjord in Lister bailiwick, Lister and Mandal County shall, according to the boundaries determined for the same by the King, hereafter be a market town, and as such subject to the general rules that market towns are or will be prescribed." Flekkefjord had thus become a town."

If you want to learn more about Flekkefjord's exciting history while enjoying the sea view and taking a breather, Rød Løper at Spira is the place to be.
