Getting on the bike is a great way to experience Egersund. The possibilities are many. We have listed 6 different cycle routes starting in the center of Egersund with a good variety of lengths.

1: North Sea Road from Egersund to Hellvik
Cycling Nordsjøveien from Egersund to Hellvik is a fantastic trip, stretching over 12 beautiful kilometres on well-maintained hiking trails/gravel roads. Along the way, there are many great vantage points and rest stops. If cycling back and forth is too far, a good alternative is to turn around at Maurholen (an old train station that sells waffles in the summer and has a beautifully landscaped outdoor area) or take the train one way. The route is part of Nordsjøveien and is well signposted. From the city centre, follow Fv. 44 to the station where you turn left and follow Fv. 502 in the direction of Eigerøy. Here you can use the footpath, cycle path and sheltered road all the way to the junction with Gamle Eigerøyveien. There, the road is crossed and the beautiful hiking trail reveals itself just after the underpass of Eigerøyveien. This route is used extensively by walkers, and cyclists are asked to show consideration for them.
2: City centre - Tengs/ Kosen - Vingård - Langevann - City centre
On this lovely round trip, the family can cycle on footpaths and cycle paths for much of the journey. From the city centre, follow Fv. 44 to Tengs. Here you can stop for a round of mini golf or an ice cream at Kosen. At the junction of Jærveien and Tengsareidveien, turn right and then follow the first exit to the right onto Vingårdsveien. At the top of Vingårdsveien, there is a nice gravel footpath leading to the Langevann housing estate. There are great swimming opportunities at the end of Store Langevann and from there down to the city centre there is a nice walking and cycling path. The round trip totals just under 10 kilometres.
3: City centre - Mjølhus - Kjervall
This is a great walk and cycle path from the city centre, via Rv. 42 to the exit towards Mjølhus. The route continues along Sletteidveien to the bottom of the gravel slope towards Kjervall. The trail has little traffic and is therefore well suited to families. In the middle of the slope towards Kjervall, there is a nice little pool in the stream on the right-hand side of the gravel road. It's a lovely place to take a dip on a hot summer's day, when you can feel the hill getting a little tougher. From the culvert, follow the gravel road inwards on a tractor road to Kjervall. Take the trip to Trollpikken if you wish. There are several nice places to take a break up here and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The return journey is approximately 17 kilometres.
4: City centre - Hestnes
This tour goes to beautiful Hestnes, where views of the open sea and great hiking trails can be used as an extension of the bike ride. The route follows a pedestrian and cycle path along Fv. 44 towards Sokndal. You then turn onto Gamle Sokndalsveien, where there is partly mixed traffic for a short distance. At Lygre, a well-maintained footpath and cycle path begins, leading almost all the way to the car park at the wastewater treatment plant by the sea. There are great hiking areas here that are well marked by Dalane Friluftsråd. It is recommended that you head inland on the paths for a short break before returning along the same route back to the centre of Sykkelbyen. The return trip is 8 km from the centre.
5: City centre - Koldalsbakken - Puntervoll - Nodland i Heia - Veshovda - City centre
This round trip provides 35 kilometres on the bike and can be cycled both ways depending on choice and wind conditions. There is a slight incline at the start of the route and the total elevation is 700 metres. The route is mainly on asphalt, but has a small section on a nice gravel road. The asphalt road has little traffic and although there are no footpaths or cycle paths, the route is considered safe to cycle. From Egersund town centre, cycle towards Sokndal (Fv. 44) to the junction with Koldal. Turn left here and follow the signs on the tarmac road towards Puntervold and Koldal. At the junction with Hegdal, turn left towards Vindbirkeland. Then follow the tarmac road straight ahead until you meet the gravel road at the end of Nodlandsvatnet. The gravel road is approx. 0.5 km before it meets the paved road all the way down to the centre again. On the way from Nodland towards Veshovda, you pass the organised hiking area of Horve, where beautiful off-road cycle routes have been prepared by Dalane Sykleklubb. This is a great area that is ideal for a break. From Horve, you return via Veshovda and then down Koldalsbakken until you reach the city centre and your "destination" in Sykkelbyen.
6: Centre - Skadbergsanden
Here, the destination really is worth the trip. Skadbergsanden is Egersund's pride and joy when it comes to bathing. In fine summer weather, there's little to compare with the fresh breeze and warm sea air experienced by guests at the beach. Cycling the 15 kilometres to the beach makes the body extra grateful for being able to bask in the cooling open sea. The bike ride is on paved roads, as well as several stretches of footpaths and cycle paths. Follow Fv. 44 from the city centre to Egersund station. Turn right here and follow Fv. 502 towards Eigerøy. After the bridge over to Eigerøy, turn right onto Ytstebrødveien and follow it until the sea appears on the left-hand side of the road. Turn off Ytstebrødveien to Skadbergsanden, where you will find a bicycle stand close to the main entrance to the beach.
