There are various theories about names with crosses in them. Some claim that crosses were put up along the coast as navigation marks. Others believe that they referred to important harbours, or were erected as symbols of the Christianisation of Norway. Harbour crosses are a well-known concept. For example, the harbour cross on Kvitsøy stands on Krossøynå. It is therefore tempting to believe that there may have been a cross on Krossneset at the entrance to Eikundasund.
