Stop 1: Flekkefjord – The Dutch Town

The journey begins in Flekkefjord, where coastal landscapes and outdoor activity set the tone. After arrival and check-in, the day starts actively with rail biking on the historic Flekkefjord Railway. Cycling along old tracks through tunnels, bridges and open terrain offers both physical engagement and close contact with the surrounding landscape. The day ends in town with good food and the opportunity to unwind after an energetic start.

Stop 2: Brufjellhålene and the coastal landscape

From Flekkefjord, the route follows the coast towards Brufjellhålene, one of the most dramatic hiking areas in Magma Geopark. Narrow paths along steep cliffs lead to the famous rock pools carved into the mountainside, with powerful views of the North Sea and a strong sense of the raw coastal forces at work.

Later, the journey continues through Jøssingfjord, where geology, industry and coastal life meet. Visit the houses beneath Helleren and explore Jøssingfjord Science Museum before continuing to Sogndalstrand. The day ends in the protected tiny town of historic wooden houses, where calm surroundings offer a contrast to the demanding hike earlier in the day.

Stop 3: From tiny town to Egersund

The day begins with outdoor experiences along the coast, with options ranging from a boat trip at sea to exploring Jøssingfjord, Helleren and nearby via ferrata routes. These activities combine physical effort with insight into coastal history and landscape.

From here, the journey continues to Egersund, one of Norway’s best-preserved wooden towns. After arrival, the focus shifts to small-town life, guided walks through historic streets and optional activities that keep the day active, such as tastings or outdoor recreation. The combination of movement, culture and harbour life creates a varied and engaging stop.

Stop 4: Byrkjedal – Into the mountains

Leaving the coast behind, the route turns inland towards Byrkjedal. The landscape changes character as mountains and valleys take over, offering new challenges and perspectives.

Byrkjedalstunet serves as a base for mountain activities, including via ferrata climbing in Gloppedalsura, Northern Europe’s largest scree slope. The climb provides both physical challenge and sweeping views of the surrounding terrain. The day also allows time to explore traditional surroundings and recover after an active afternoon.

The final stop is centred on some of the most physically demanding and rewarding experiences of the journey. A guided summit hike to Vinjakula, the highest peak in Magma Geopark, offers panoramic views across mountains and fjords.

Later, the pace shifts to water-based activity with SUP or kayaking in Frafjord, allowing for a different kind of movement through the landscape. The journey concludes with travel towards Stavanger and onward ferry departure, rounding off an active and varied round trip through south-western Norway.
