The Migaren Via Ferrata in Jøssingfjord takes you high up the steep mountain side with a fantastic view over the fjord with the Fokksteinane in the background. You look down on the old renovated power station, the Jøssingfjord Science Museum and the iconic houses under Helleren.
This is not the trip for those who struggle with a fear of heights. The trail is not particularly technically demanding, and you walk as much as you climb. But it is steep and high! It is therefore reccomended that you have climbed with a harness and sling before. The highlight of the trip is Migaren. In dry periods, this precipitous waterfall is just a trickle of water, while after rainy weather it gives you a solid shower.
Via Ferrata Migaren is a 400 meter long climbing route that winds along the rock face and over a waterfall in Jøssingfjord.
The hike is partly on bolts in the mountain and is named after the Migaren waterfall that you have to cross along the way. The climb is medium in terms of difficulty and will provide a great hiking experience and challenge for most people.
Suitable for people in good physical condition and with some experience of climbing/Via Ferrata. Not suitable for children under 12 and people with a fear of heights. During the season, it is possible to hire a guide and this is a great experience even for those without experience. You do not need climbing experience when hiring a guide.
To climb, you need a viaferrata sling, a climbing harness and a climbing helmet. These can be hired from Jøssingfjord Science Museum.
