Welcome to a walk through Egersund's historic neighbourhoods! The culture trail is perfect for a pleasant stroll where you can also get to know Egersund town centre better.
In 1920, former national antiquarian Harry Fett called Strandgaten in Egersund "Empire-street". But not all districts have had such glamorous names. Because of the unbearable stench, Lervige was called "Santos", after the Brazilian city of Santos, which in the 19th century was notorious for its unhealthy climate. On the opposite side of the beauty scale you will find the beautiful, small Park in Strandgaten, but did you know that the Park was completely razed in the 1940s and referred to as the "stain of outrage"? Or that the Park's original fountain was found in the garden of a fisherman in Skagen in Denmark and reassembled in the Park in 1994?
You can read about this and much more on the signs placed along the route. The Kulturstien is suitable for anyone who wants a pleasant stroll while getting to know the center of Egersund a little better
