Gallery M

The artist and musician couple, Jack and Marit, want Galleri M to be a place where you can stop by to enjoy art along with music. Marit exhibits her own art here, as well as contributions from ceramicist Anne Kirsten Hegland-Grimm. Marit also has an open studio where visitors can experience art in the making!

Artist and musician couple Jack Bjørkhaug and Marit Ananiassen from Northern Norway longed for more sun, warmth, family and friends in Southern Norway. They ended up finding a house in cosy Feda in Kvinesdal and in March 2023 they opened a gallery in Flekkefjord - Galleri M. Jack is a musician and Marit is an artist. At Galleri M, you can occasionally experience a wonderful combination of both - art and music.

On a walk

Galleri M is located at Elvegaten 15, where Elvegaten meets Brogaten, in the centre of Flekkefjord. The couple found the venue on a walk around town. Marit exhibits her own art here, as well as contributions from ceramicist Anne Kirsten Hegland-Grimm. Ananiassen has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Northern Norway. She wants to do the same here in the south, and she welcomes guest artists to the gallery.

Graphics, clay and photography

Marit works with painting, graphics, clay and photography. Her artworks are both abstract and figurative. She often draws shapes from music, people or nature. The artist has explored many different techniques and materials and enjoys working with textures in her paintings.

See art in the making

"I've also got myself a studio in the back room. The idea is that I'll work there when the gallery is open. Then people can come in and see a bit of the process behind the art. It's great that Flekkefjord is a town that now has more art galleries to offer. There will be more for people to look at and a larger art community," says Ananiassen, in conversation with Agder newspaper.

Art school, graphic drawing and art therapy

The artist is originally from Tromsø and has an education from the art school in Lofoten, as well as four years of teacher training in practical and aesthetic subjects from the teacher training college in Tromsø. She also has a basic course in graphic drawing and is a trained art therapist.

Jack Bjørkhaug is a guitarist and has previously been a full-time musician. Now he is a part-time musician, active in the gallery and working his way into the local music scene. He is a member of the band "The Glædis".

"It was a bit of a job getting the grand piano we bought in Sandefjord transported and installed, but now it's ready and we're planning some mini concerts in the art space," Bjørkhaug reveals.
