In the old district of Hollenderbyen in Flekkefjord, small and slightly larger wooden houses are packed together in narrow cobbled streets. From the 16th to the 18th century, a large number of Dutch people settled in Flekkefjord and made a living from trading in oak wood, grey stone and herring. The need for raw materials in their homeland was enormous. To this day, it is Flekkefjord oak and grey stone building materials from Flekkefjord that support parts of Amsterdam. The Dutch have left their mark on Flekkefjord and Flekkefjæring, which is why the old town in Flekkefjord has been nicknamed Hollenderbyen.

Exciting city museum and historic hotel

You will find the Flekkefjord museum in a skipper's and merchant's house from 1724. It is considered the city's oldest house. The first floor is furnished like a mansion from the end of the 18th century and from the 19th century. The special Grand hotel in Flekkefjord is located where Hollenderbyen begins. The hotel was built in 1897 in classic Swiss style and with octagonal towers. The hotel is one of Flekkefjord's most photographed buildings.

Hollenderbyen has also become an outdoor exhibition space for street art. Every year, local and international street artists paint new works of art in Flekkefjord.
