The trip from Gaudland to Kvidaheia is a demanding one, but you can also choose to take a relaxing trip to Gaudland and the DNT cabin where you can drive almost to the door.
The trip from Gaudland to Kvidaheia (277 meters above sea level) takes approximately 4 hours round trip. Follow Spjodedalen from Gaudland and south to Fentjørn. About 600 meters after Fentjørn you cross the stream and go south into more open terrain. You continue to Ålekkjertjørn (163 m), and around Hedlerfjellet before going up to the top.
Most of the trip is on hard anorthosite that is part of the Helleren anorthosite. As you approach Gaudland, however, you'll discover that basaltic magma from deep underground has been pushed up into a fissure some 300 million years later, forming a dyke. You can follow this trench through the landscape for about 35 kilometres. Due to erosion and weathering that strongly affects jotunite and basalt, you can see far more fertile soil than hard anorthosite, and the dikes are hidden under a thick layer of vegetation.
From Egersund, follow RV 42 or RV 44 and turn off towards fv. 501. Follow signs to Gaudland and drive the gravel road to the end (approx. 2 km) to the car park. Be aware of a very narrow road and few meeting points.
