PIDER Ro – Sea stories and tall tales from the seven seas
A performance for everyone who loves Southern Norway, good music, and lively storytelling!
In 1905, the Sørlandet author Gabriel Scott published the book “Pider Ro’s historier” under the pseudonym Finn Fogg. Gabriel Scott had visited Pider Ro several times in the 1890s and eventually recorded these stories.
Pider Ro (1839-1915) resided in an old sailing boat at Lagmannsholmen in Kristiansand. He lived there with his dog, Ludafisk. It is said that he lived his life as a settled vagrant. Although he had hardly been very far out to sea, he had spent a lot of time with sailors. He helped with lodging and other needs, scraped mussels from the shoals, and often had bait to sell. Eventually, he became known for his tall tales from his «adventures on the seven seas» and is considered one of the best and most original storytellers Southern Norway has produced.
In the performance «PIDER Ro – Songs and tall tales from the seven seas», you will meet the man from Sørlandet, Pider Ro, in character, performed by our foremost storyteller of these tales, our dear actor Lars Emil Nielsen.
Between the stories, there will be music in interplay with musician Svein-Helge Vikse.
Lars Emil and Svein-Helge have been performing their Pider Ro shows extensively at cultural centres and occasionally in their own productions, such as on the island of Hille in Mandal in the summer of 2025.
