Holiday tips: Top 4 unique experiences in Egersund

Trollpikken, Eigerøy Lighthouse, the old railway line and the wooden buildings are all worth seeing if you're in Egersund.

1. Troll dick

For those who want to visit the most famous attractions are Trollpikken is a great trip to take with family or friends, and worth taking if you're in Egersund. You can either drive or Rent a bike from the city centre to get to Trollpikken. Bring your swimwear! Along the trail you can find a waterfall and several potholes where you can swim.

Trollpikken became world famous in 2017 when someone decided to cut it down from the mountain where it had been hiding for almost 10,000 years. When the ice retreated about 13,000 years ago, meltwater from the glacier caused cracks to form in the mountains beneath the ice. These cracks were filled with water, and when the water froze, the cracks became larger and deeper. When the ice disappeared, so did the pressure from the ice, and even more cracks had formed. This, together with a bit of luck, has led to the formation of Trollpikken.

4. The wooden buildings

Egersund is a cosy town with historic wooden buildings, a beautiful town centre with many niche shops, tasty restaurants and cafés and a rich cultural life. Egersund town centre has one of the best-preserved wooden buildings in Norway. Large parts of the urban area are now regulated as a special antiquarian area. Many fine examples of wooden buildings can be found in Strandgaten, which used to be the town's main street. It was created after a reorganisation in 1843, when a major fire reduced the entire settlement to ashes. When the outer part of the city was rebuilt, it was given straight streets in a regular grid pattern.
