Medium hike in Lund, 2.5 hours
There is an impressive cairn at the top of Gullbergtua, at 463 metres above sea level, from where you can enjoy a fantastic view. The mountains here were formed very close to the top of the 7 km thick, and layered, Bjerkreim-Sokndal intrusion. The rock here is a type of granite (called charnockite) that contains nine minerals, including significant amounts of quartz.
The view to the north and northwest gives a good overview of bare, rounded, rocky outcrops that formed the quartz-bearing rocks on top of the layered intrusion; they extend about 4 km in this direction. Near Røyseland farm, the ice has left boulders. Among other things, these have been used to build a large ski jump!
From the E39, follow fv. 501. Turn right after 1.5 kilometres. After approx. 2 km, turn left. Continue for about 2 km before parking on the right-hand side.
Accessibility: Moderately hard hike. Marked paths.
