The square in Egersund

In the centre of Egersund you'll find the square - probably the only one in the world made of real moonstone, the beautiful rock anorthosite.

This rare anorthosite stone is found both in the MAGMA Unesco Geopark here in southern Rogaland and on the moon - and gives the square a magical, shiny look that changes character with the light throughout the day.

When the square in Egersund was renovated in 2023, the aim was to create more than just a new urban space. The result was a living heart for the town - a place for both parties and community, everyday life and experiences. Here you can stroll over moonstones, meet friends in the surrounding cafés, enjoy good food in the town's restaurants and take part in cultural events throughout the year.

With its unique circular and sinusoidal benches, designed by Sven-Erik Markhus Kaiser, it's a meeting between industry and art - combined with wood produced by cabinetmaker Frode K. Tingbø.

The result is organic shapes that look great, are comfortable to sit on and make fantastic photo subjects.

Torget er blitt et naturlig møtested for mennesker i alle aldre. Her møtes barn, ungdom og voksne – for en is, en kopp kaffe, en prat eller en pause i sola. Torget fungerer like godt under store arrangementer som Julebyen Egersund, som på en vanlig tirsdag formiddag.

Rundt torget finner du et sentrum av butikker, museer og opplevelser, midt i hjertet av Egersund.
