Stemmefjellet

A small peak with a big view

For generations, Stemmefjellet has had a rumour that you can hear “voices” from here when the wind direction is right. No one knows for sure whether the story is true or just a good local urban legend - but it has contributed to the mountain's exciting and slightly mysterious atmosphere.

From the top, the landscape opens up in all directions. The views are surprisingly extensive for such a short hike, and you can see large parts of Hellvik and the beautiful archipelago. Towards the sea Eigerøy lighthouse, and if you follow your gaze inland, you can point out both Ski ball, Gyaaksla and Bjerkreim transmitter. The strait towards Egersund is a natural landmark.

The climb is steep, but fortunately not long. There are white markings from the starting point. At the junction, you leave the markings and follow the mountain up to the summit. Even if your heart rate increases a little along the way, the reward is worth it!

At the top, you'll usually find a bench - although it has a tendency to blow away when hiking in strong winds. However, it always reappears nearby, offering a perfect place to take a breather, have a coffee and just enjoy the silence and the view.
