Egersund is a cosy town with historic wooden buildings, a great town centre with many niche shops, tasty restaurants and cafés and a rich cultural life. Experience the varied and diverse nature all year round on hikes in forests, fields and mountains. The stunning coastline is beautiful by boat, car and on foot. Egersund offers experiences large and small just one hour from Stavanger.
Here is a small selection of the many experiences we have to offer in winter.
1: The seafood town of Egersund - all year round

Egersund is the place for fresh seafood, whether you're eating out or shopping at local outlets. In February 2026, the Seafood Festival will be held, with taste trains, snacks and activities across the town. An easy and great way to experience Egersund's food culture when the seafood is at its best!

2: Year-round bathing and sauna

The Skadberg sand and the city centre harbour give you the opportunity for a cold bath - and just as important: a hot sauna afterwards. The combination of cold water and hot saunas makes bathing accessible and comfortable all year round, just minutes from the city centre.
The pool is also popular with year-round swimmers.

3: Visit the four city centres

City peaks: Varbergtoppen, Kontrarifjellet/Fløyen, Kråkefjellet and Årstadfjellet.
Egersund has four well-known city mountains that are popular hiking destinations: Varberg, Kontrari, Kråkefjellet and Årstadfjellet. These peaks are close to the town centre and offer great views of the town and nearby coastal landscape. The hikes are suitable for families, hikers and visitors who want an active break in the city centre.
After a hike on one or more of the city's mountains, you can wander back to the city centre, where cosy eateries and cafés await. Savour local dishes, coffee or perhaps an ice cream while reflecting on the views and experiences you've had in nature. This way you get fresh air, activity and the city's charming atmosphere all in one experience.

4: Walk the start of Kystpilgrimsleia

The Coastal Pilgrimage Trail is a historic route that starts in Egersund and ends at Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The route offers fantastic nature experiences in beautiful coastal areas, with historical and cultural values - a journey that touches you, whether you choose a short or long part of the route.
Most people combine travelling along the Coastal Pilgrimage Route with boat, bus and hiking. In April 2024, Crown Princess Mette Marit started walking the Coastal Pilgrimage Route from Egersund.

5: Explore Viking history in Egersund

Egersund was a central meeting point in the Viking Age, where great men such as Erling Skjalgsson and Knut the Mighty forged alliances that influenced Norway's early empire. In the area you will find traces of both the Vikings and the first pilgrims who followed in their footsteps.
When Egersund celebrates Norway's millennium in 2030, we can think of Eikundasund and Egersund as more than a small harbour in Rogaland. It was the place where alliances were forged, wealth was shared, and the foundations of Norway were laid - a thousand years before we gathered to celebrate our history.
