Some highlights

Sogndalstrand

A protected cultural environment with well-preserved wooden buildings from the 19th century. Here you can visit the Sogndalstrand Museum, which presents exhibitions about local history and maritime culture.

Sokndal church

Sokndal church, built in 1803 in the Louis XVI style, is a cruciform church that replaced the existing St. Jakob's church from the 17th century. The altarpiece from 1608 indicates that an even older church stood on the site before St. Jakob's church.

Rosslandsguden

Rosslandsguden kommer fra Rossland i Sokndal. Den er hugget ut av en lokal bergart og er ca 60 cm høy. Statuen er nå utstilt i Jøssingfjord Vitenmuseum.

Rock carvings

In several places in Sokndal you can find petroglyphs from the Bronze Age. The most famous are the rock carvings on Bø, with figures of ships, soles of feet and bowl pits.

Fasgardsløe and barn at Barstad

At Barstad in Sokndal there is a stone barn and a fasgardsløe. The buildings are remnants of the so-called ''fasgardslandsbyen'' which was located in Barstad in the past. The technique is completely unique to Dalane and today the moor on Barstad together with the moor on Øyne in Helleland are the only ones left.

The houses under Helleren

The wooden houses date from the 19th century and were originally used by fishermen and farmers. The houses have been preserved in their original style and give a glimpse of what life was like in Sokndal in a bygone era.

Historic walk along the ore railway

Historical walking along the Sandbekk Malmbane is a great way to learn about Sokndal's history. Here, signs have been set up along the road so that you can read about what it was like in the past.

In addition to these highlights, there are a number of other interesting cultural monuments scattered around Sokndal. You can find more information about these on the website of Sokndal municipality or Dalane Folkemuseum.
