Magma UNESCO Global Geopark offers experiences both on land and at sea. Whether you prefer a leisurely paddle on a mirror-like water, kayaking between islets and reefs, or a fast-paced trip along the dramatic Magma Coast, there are experiences for both beginners and experienced hikers.
From the water you get up close to the landscape in a completely different way. You glide silently through narrow straits, see new angles and experience nature at your own pace. Here are five experiences that let you explore the geopark from the water.
Lund: Calm paddling trips on Lundevatnet
Lundevatnet is a natural starting point for those who want a quiet day on the water. The elongated lake is surrounded by forest and steep mountain slopes, with small coves and clear water that invites you to kayak, canoe and SUP.
This is an area that is well suited for both beginners and families, while being large enough for longer trips for those who want to explore more.
If you don't have your own equipment, you can borrow a canoe, kayak, SUP or packraft through Dalane Friluftsråd. The equipment can be picked up from one of the equipment banks in Dalane and can be easily ordered in advance.

Bjerkreim: From quiet water to mighty salmon river
Bjerkreim offers several great experiences on the water. In the middle of Vikeså is Svelavatnet, an easily accessible body of water that is perfect for a leisurely trip by kayak, canoe or SUP. Here you will also find a small sandy beach, seating and barbecue facilities in the FN park – a nice starting point for a day out.
If you want a more extensive nature experience, the Bjerkreimsvassdraget offers one of Norway's most important salmon rivers. The river winds through a varied landscape with forests, cultural landscapes and quiet areas, and provides a completely different perspective on nature than what you get from land.
Dalane Friluftsråd offers canoe, kayak, SUP and packraft rentals. In order to protect the vulnerable salmon river, special rules apply for disinfecting paddling equipment. Therefore, there is special equipment that is prepared for use in the Bjerkreims River.

Flekkefjord: Experience Hidra from the kayak
The island of Hidra has long traditions as a fishing community, and much of its history is best experienced from the sea.
By kayak you get close to sheltered bays, old sea houses and small harbors, while you can explore the coast at your own pace. At Opplev Hidra you can rent a kayak or join guided tours where experienced instructors share stories about the island's culture, nature and marine life along the way.
This is an experience that is suitable both for those who want a quiet paddle and for those who want to learn more about life along the coast.
Sokndal: Speed and excitement along the Magma Coast
If you want a little more adrenaline, sea rafting is an experience you won't soon forget.
Sogndalstrand Sea Rafting & Outdoors takes you out to sea along the spectacular coast outside Sokndal. Here you experience the steep mountain sides, hidden coves and the rugged Magma Coast from a completely different angle than what is possible from land.
In addition to sea rafting, they offer guided fishing trips and outdoor experiences that can be combined with food and accommodation at Sogndalstrand Kulturhotell.

Egersund: Explore the archipelago around Eigerøy
Around Eigerøy you will find one of Rogaland's most exciting archipelagos. Here you can paddle between islets and skerries, anchor on sheer rocky cliffs or experience the dramatic coast from the sea.
On quiet summer days, this is a fantastic way to experience Magma Geopark's characteristic bedrock. Along the way, you get views of Eigerøy lighthouse and can discover small coves and natural harbors that are only accessible from the sea.
Whether you choose a kayak or a boat, this is an experience that provides a whole new perspective on the coastal landscape.
Find your next trip
Dalane is one of Rogaland's best areas for paddling and has many suitable locations for paddling. Along deep fjord lakes, along the many inland waters, down rivers or along the archipelago around Eigerøy and from Nesvåg to Sogndalstrand, you will find both good and special paddling routes, whether you are experienced, beginner, adventurous or bringing the family.
Dalane Outdoor Council has collected a number of recommended paddling routes which makes it easy to find a trip that suits both skill level and weather conditions.

You don't need to own a kayak, canoe, packraft, SUP or other equipment to experience Magma Geopark from the water. Borrow the outdoor equipment you need from equipment banks in Dalane. The equipment can be picked up in Eigersund, Sokndal, Lund and Bjerkreim, and must be ordered in advance.
In Flekkefjord you can rent equipment from BUA.
