Sokndal cinema marks Women's Day with the Icelandic documentary "A Day Without Women".On 24 October 1975, almost all of Iceland came to a standstill. 90,% of the country's women went to work - both at home and at work - showing how crucial their efforts were. Known as «Women's Day Off», this day changed history and became a turning point in the fight for gender equality.A Day Without Women is a gripping documentary about the women's large-scale strike in Iceland in 1975. Through archive footage and personal stories, the film depicts how an entire nation felt the consequences of women taking a day off - and how this fuelled both political reform and social debate. The film is as relevant today as it was almost 50 years ago. At a time when we're still discussing wage gaps, investment gaps and gender equality in the labour market, this story reminds us of the power that comes from women standing together. An inspiring and thought-provoking encounter with the struggles of the past that continue to shape our future.
